What God has to say about us is The Truth, not our feelings or our opinions.
If God has to wait until we are good enough to work in us, would anything ever get done? We aren't required to be faultless, only blameless!
The more of His flesh I eat and blood I drink (the Word of God) the less I hear the deceiver. I do like the odd hamburger though. Lol.
