Thank you. I encourage my students to memorize things but never teach the how. This is a great how! Thanks Kate. Peace Tom

I'm sure students these days are familiar with all the apps out there to help memorize. I not very techy, I'm old-school.

I’ve been wanting to get better at memorizing verses. I like the notecard idea! I’m planning on carrying around a small pocket notebook full of verses I want to memorize. Thank you for sharing Kate!😊

I love this method! I used it for years; then the box full of cards got lost in a move somewhere. Thank you for encouraging me to start again!

After I wrote this, I thought it would be out of date to so many who use apps on their phones for convenience. I grew up using notecards, I just don't think of doing it any other way. I still use the same notecards I wrote 40 plus years ago. Thanks for reading!

There’s something powers about putting pen to paper….

I recently started writing out Scripture in a pocket notebook, and I have found that it is really helpful. Like you said, spending the time to write Scripture down—even on a notecard—can prove helpful. It helps me slow down and digest. (Little plug, I wrote about it on my stack under the title “Keeping Scripture Close.” I feel like our posts go hand-in-hand a little 😊) Thank you for the suggestions and exhortations. You’ve given me some great reminders and suggestions for devotion.

I read your "Keeping Scripture Close." I thought it was good. I was glad to see someone else who doesn't always make a device like a phone or app their "go-to." Everyone needs to find what works for them. Thank you so much for reading and participating in the conversation.

Good tips, I have some new things to try!

One of the best things I love about verse memory is I can pray the Word without having to look it up all the time.

I read it out loud to myself because hearing it spoken helps me comprehend it better.

I have a word file, now 7-8 pages long, of the verses that comfort me. Occasionally, I loosely organize them to make it easier to find a certain scripture concept. But these verse sheets are in my purse, a page is pinned to my fridge, they are at my home office desk. So I grab it when I have a free moment or a particular need to be comforted by scripture. Over time, the more I read them, they are "hidden in my heart." I haven't attempted to actively memorize but yet they are there. Thank you for this post and God bless.

This is a great thing. I do something similar, having a word document with special verses for all kinds of situations. Thanks for sharing what you do!

This is awesome. I didn't even think about all the apps out there that would be helpful. I've never used any of them. Sometimes I forget there's an app for everything! :) Thank you for the suggestion!!!!
