When you looked in your bathroom mirror, what did you see today?
Most people see all their physical imperfections.
“EEEEEEK, my hair is definitely more gray than last week! And how did those bags under my eyes get bigger overnight?”
Everyone can easily come up with a list of things they wish were different about their appearance.
It’s amazing how we can see our internal imperfections in that same mirror.
“I’m not a good enough Christian; everyone else seems so much better than me.”
Every negative thing seems to stand out like a strawberry in a bowl of peas.
Maybe we are looking in the wrong mirror.
The one hanging in your bathroom isn’t the same one God uses.
We look in God’s mirror by reading the Bible. The Bible is the only source of truth and the Holy Spirit helps us to understand it. (See 1 Corinthians 2:12-16)
“For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7b (NKJV)
When He looks at us, He sees someone created in His image.
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:27
Our outside appearance will never be flawless as we are aging each day. However, our insides will be perfect because we are new creatures in Christ. (See 2 Corinthians 5:17)
When we become believers, He no longer sees our past sins. (See Psalm 103:12, 1 John 1:9, Psalm 51:7)
God wants us to find our identity in Him. (See Ephesians 1:3-6) We are not to get caught up in how others view us.
Today, make sure to check yourself out in the bathroom mirror (no one wants you to go out in public with spinach between your teeth) but also remember to look in God’s mirror to assess your true worth.
You are beautiful on the inside because you belong to Him.
