I am on Thanksgiving overload and would like to change the subject. Not that it’s bad to talk about thankfulness and gratefulness. But a reader can only take so many posts about the subject.
Anywho, I’m going to attempt a lighthearted change of pace for this last week of November.
When was the last time you laughed so hard your stomach hurt?
I remember as a teenager, it didn’t take much for my friends and me to start a laughing fit. Whether we were playing a game, watching a movie, or just engaged in girl talk, we could make each other giggle over nothing.
As we get older, it seems it’s harder to really get us laughing. Those kind of laughing spells come few and far between.
Well, I think we all need one of those big belly laughs about now.
There is so much sadness, hurt, and heartache in our world today. I would say we are all about due to find some hilarity.
When we were first married, my husband would try to annoy me by playing “The Shadow Game.”
If you aren’t familiar with it, out of nowhere, one person mimics the other by repeating the other’s words and the game begins.
For example:
Me: Could you turn the TV down?
My husband: Could you turn the TV down?
Me: Don’t repeat what I say.
My husband: Don’t repeat what I say.
Whenever he would start, we would end up laughing so hard, and then he would try to imitate my laugh, which only made it funnier. My stomach muscles would hurt from laughing for so long. (Maybe you had to be there…)
Yes, this is a game played by little kids, and I can assure you we haven’t played in years…but I say we need more of that kind of laughter in our lives.
According to the Mayo Clinic, laughing can have some great side effects:
Improve your immune system.
Relieve pain.
Improve your mood.
Yes please, I’ll take some of that.
On more than one occasion, the Bible talks about laughter too.
Proverbs 17:22 (NKJV) says, “A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.”
So, do whatever you have to do to be in a situation where laughter abounds (even if everything else in your life is going wrong).
Whether it’s spending time with friends, watching funny movies, scrolling through 30 Instagram cat videos, or playing a silly game with your kids, just do it.
I just got a good laugh tonight after scrolling through some funny cat videos.😊
Thanks Kate. Humor is one of my core values for life. I often say, "I only tease the one's I love," but then I try, by the grace of God, to love everyone... so, there's that. I'm thankful for laughter.
Oops. Changed the topic back to thanksgiving. My bad. 🤭
