I heard a strange commotion outside.
From the window, I saw my lawn furniture overturning and trees leaning over as they were no match against the wind.
The unusual storm wasn’t a tornado but a microburst with sudden winds of almost 100 mph.
It left destruction in its path.
Driving around town after the storm, I saw broken branches scattered across yards and streets.
Gaping holes in the ground were visible where trunks were uprooted before toppling over.
Most of the trees looked so broken and battered.
I have felt like those trees when trials have tested my strength and endurance.
Job knew a thing or two about life’s storms, and we can learn from his story about what not to do:
1 - Throw Away Our Faith
Having faith in God is believing and trusting Him when we can’t see His plan or understand His reasoning (Hebrews 11:1)
Just because things aren’t going the way we think they should doesn’t mean God isn’t in control.
God told us if we follow Him, life won’t be easy. (Psalm 34:19)
It’s in the hard times our faith can be strengthened.
“Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.”
Job 13:15a (NKJV)
2 - Stop Talking to God
Like any relationship, if we aren’t talking, we are growing farther apart.
We shouldn’t blame God for what is hard in our lives.
Because we live in a sinful and fallen world, bad things happen to good people.
This is a time to use prayer to draw closer to Him.
“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears…”
Psalm 34:17 (NKJV)
3 - Lose Hope
Sometimes, we lose the passion and drive to deal with our lives.
Job said his spirit was broken (Job 17:1).
If we lose our hope, what does that say about our belief in God’s sovereignty?
Our hope in God is an anchor to the soul (Hebrews 6:19). Without it, we float aimlessly.
Job’s life teaches us to cling to our hope in God during times of trouble.
Wrapping it Up
How strong are your roots?
We may lose branches in the storm, but God will stabilize our roots.
We will remain firmly established to face another day.
Eventually, Job realized he wasn’t capable of understanding God’s ways, and it wasn’t his place to question.
He loved and trusted God in spite of all his problems, and He brought him through stronger on the other side.
He can do the same for us.
Thank you!!!!! Very helpful specifically right now!
