Making Your Life Count for Heavenly Rewards
What are your works made of? Gold, silver, or precious stones versus wood, hay, or stubble?
As we get older, we realize how fast time passes.
It’s good to occasionally think about where we’re headed on life’s journey and where we want to focus our time and energy.
It’s important to ask ourselves on a regular basis, “Are we pursuing things that have eternal value?”
As Christians, we will stand before the judgment seat of Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:9-10)
At that time, God will test the quality of each person’s work. (1 Corinthians 3:10-14)
This scripture passage describes how Christians build on top of the foundation of Christ with our works.
We will receive a reward for things built with gold or silver. These high-quality materials represent our activity done for eternal value.
Works that do not receive a reward are those made of straw or wood. These cheap materials represent activity with no eternal value.
Are we spending our precious time on things that will have an impact for God? Or are we chasing things that only have value in this life?
Quoting from the famous poem, “Only One Life,” by C.T. Studd:
Two little lines I heard one day,
Traveling along life’s busy way;
Bringing conviction to my heart,
And from my mind would not depart;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.
As we say goodbye to 2023, what do you want to accomplish for God next year?
Maybe it’s witnessing to someone – anyone.
Maybe it’s praying for someone’s salvation.
Maybe it’s reading your Bible more.
Maybe it’s investing in or encouraging your children’s relationship with God.
Maybe it’s volunteering to help another person, organization, or service.
Maybe it’s leading a Bible study or teaching a Sunday School Class.
As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 Peter 4:10 (NKJV)
I challenge you to spend a few minutes thinking and praying for God’s direction as we move into a new year.
No one knows how much time we have left in this life. Let’s use it wisely.
So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12 (NKJV)
I have to agree and with the poem.
Great encouragement! Much to think about.
