“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
James 5:16b (NKJV)
How many times have you told someone you would pray for them?
Did you say it because it is what a Christian is supposed to say? Did you say it because you couldn’t think of anything else at the time?
If you sincerely meant it, did you actually follow through?
Recently, my husband had a heart attack, and I was in full-blown crisis mode. My world was turned upside down and I desperately needed prayers.
I had many people tell me they would pray.
I’m sure some forgot and never followed through, life happens. Some probably prayed for him several times a day when it came to their mind.
I am grateful even if it was less than a handful who sincerely pleaded to God on our behalf. Those prayers are priceless. I felt comfort knowing others were asking God for healing.
Prayer is never a trivial endeavor. Taking our concerns straight to God’s ears is a privilege. Having a connection to the God who created us is nothing short of miraculous.
God calls us to pray for fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
“…praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints…”
Ephesians 6:18 (NKJV)
I had friends who offered to pray with me in person, which was a comfort. I even had those who offered to pray with me over the phone when they would call for updates.
If you make an offer to pray for someone, be sure to follow through on your word; it makes a difference!
Take a moment to think of whom you can pray for today. All of us know friends going through difficult times.
Thanks for this important challenge and reminder.
