This morning, I got one of those phone calls everyone dreads. My friend had a biopsy done last week, so when the cell phone rang, I was afraid to answer. My friend needed to tell me the biopsy showed stage four pancreatic cancer. The doctor said she has about six months to live.
My heart is heavy.
I know I am not alone. Many people are dealing with the horrible reality that someone they care about is dying.
Many are bravely fighting their cancers and terminal diseases. They are struggling day by day because they have no other choice.
It’s times like this you may ask the world’s most popular question:
Why do bad things happen to good people?
The answer is found in the Bible. God created a perfect world. Adam and Eve sinned, and the perfection was ruined (Genesis 1-3). God cursed the earth, and it opened the door for all humans (believers and nonbelievers) to experience pain and suffering (Matthew 5:45).
Thankfully, the story doesn’t end there.
Because of God’s great love, He made a way for us to be forgiven and have eternal life in a perfect heaven. There will be a time when we will never face physical suffering again. But for now, we live in an imperfect and fallen world.
Everyone is forced to deal with difficult things in life. But Christians can know that the pain is not in vain. The Bible says our hardships have meaning. We can trust God’s plan.
Romans 8:28 (NKJV) says, “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
If your heart is breaking because something bad is happening to you or to those you love, God provides hope and will see you through.
He never promises us it will be easy or that it will go the way we want it to.
He does promise:
He will never leave us. (Hebrews 13:5)
He cares about us. (Luke 12:24-28)
He will provide peace. (John 14:27)
He will be our refuge and strength. (Psalm 46:1)
If you are traveling this difficult road, I empathize with you. Hold on to your faith. Trust the Lord. We move forward one step at a time.
Dear Lord, give us strength and courage to face each day moment by moment.
So very sorry for the news about your friend. Thank you for the encouraging reminders. I hang on to the promise that God will be with us in trouble.
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." John 16:33
I pray now in the Name of Jesus that God touch your friend with miraculous healing. I pray that she lives to share the good news of our Savior with the world for many years to come. He is the great physician. In Jesus Name and by His blood, His healing power is true as His word says in
Isaiah 53:5 - “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”
We claim His healing, peace and joy for your friend right now in Jesus Name! 🙏. Amen
