Some days, I feel like a spiritual warrior, ready to conquer the world.
On other days, I feel like a wimp, too weak to put on the armor of God.
The Bible tells of many courageous people like Daniel, who faced ferocious lions, or Paul, who sat imprisoned in a dangerous dungeon. David was brave when he defended God’s honor by fighting the giant, Goliath.
Since we don’t face challenges like crossing the Red Sea, as Moses did, or being swallowed by a fish, like Jonah, what does bravery look like for an everyday person like us?
Bravery is
1) Stepping out in faith despite feeling fear.
Moses had all kinds of reservations when God asked him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. He leaped out in faith and followed God’s instructions walking one step at a time. That’s all we are to do, one step at a time.
2) Persevering in the face of challenges.
The Apostle Paul faced hard times. He was imprisoned, shipwrecked, and persecuted, just to name a few. God provided the strength he needed to keep going. He will do the same for us.
3) Trusting in what is unseen instead of what is seen.
Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
According to Hebrews 11:7, Noah, having been warned of things not yet seen, in holy fear, built an ark. Sometimes, we need to be brave enough to obey God’s instructions.
4) Being obedient in spite of feeling inadequate.
God called Gideon to save Israel from the enemy’s hand, and he replied, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.” (Judges 6:15 NKJV)
God provided Gideon with precisely what he needed to be obedient.
Being brave doesn’t mean you aren’t scared. It means you keep going in spite of your fear.
When you feel more like a wimp than a warrior, God will give you strength. He will help you to fight another day.
Before heading out to battle today, remember we have the Holy Spirit, He never leaves us defenseless.
1 Corinthians 12:9a (KJV) “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”
Always need this reminder. Thank you, Kate! 🙌🏻✝️
