Ever Feel Unimportant?
This devotional explains what the Bible says about feeling insignificant.
Ever feel like you don’t matter?
It’s easy to get lost in this world full of busy people.
There are so many hurting and in need of something – money, food, shelter, love, etc.
Ever feel like those around you have so much going on in their own lives, they don’t care about what’s happening in yours? I feel like that way too sometimes.
Every now and again, it can feel like we pour so much of ourselves into others but who is looking out for us?
It can make you feel alone and insignificant.
I read Luke 15:4-7 (NASB 1995) this morning, and it reminded me that I am important to my Shepherd.
4 “What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?
I think ninety-nine sheep is a lot of sheep.
Is it worth it to leave all of them just to go after one?
It doesn’t make sense financially or logistically. For me, it sounds like too much effort for too little reward.
5 When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’
The shepherd rejoices, but is it that big of a deal?
I’m sure more will run off tomorrow and the day after that and so on.
7 I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.”
Thankfully for us, there is never one of us who loses our way only for God to think, “Oh well.”
He loves all of us so much that all of heaven rejoices over one lost sinner who repents.
God is the shepherd to billions of people, and in His sovereignty, He knows each one’s heart.
If you’re like one of those wayward sheep straying off in your own direction today, let Him carry you back to the path you should be walking.
He cares about you and what’s going on in the deepest parts of your heart. I’m grateful He thinks I’m worth rescuing.
