An Important Life Question for Christians
If I knew my life was drawing to a close, I would ask myself this.
In our teens, we can’t wait to be considered an adult.
In our 20s and 30s, we can’t imagine being old, it feels too far away.
In our 40s and 50s, we start to realize how fast life goes by.
As we age, we begin to grasp the reality that dying can happen to anyone at any time, regardless of reaching old age.
“Do not boast about tomorrow,
For you do not know what a day may bring forth.”
Proverbs 27:1 (NKJV)
Attending a funeral can make us pause and take stock of our own lives. After all, it puts the fragility of life front and center.
We begin to wonder what our own funeral will look like. What will people say about us?
Personally, I don’t care about having lots of flowers around my casket or a huge headstone over my grave.
I care about the answer to these questions:
Did I love Jesus and spread His love to others?
Did I make a difference in anyone’s life?
Did I obey the Lord’s leading in my life?
Did I use the talents God gave me for His honor and glory?
“And whatever you do, do it heartily,
as to the Lord and not to men”
Colossians 3:23 (NKJV)
Time has a way of quickly slipping through our fingers like sand.
If I were lying on my deathbed, knowing my time on earth was drawing to a close, this thought would cross my mind:
Did I do all I could with the time that God gave me?
Our answer might bring uncertainty or regret. What would we change?
Would we serve others more?
Would we mend that broken relationship?
Would we tell someone about Jesus?
Would we leave the sin that so easily entangles us?
Now is the time we can actually do something about it, not when death is near and our time is quickly fading.
Yesterday is gone forever, and tomorrow is not guaranteed.
This moment is all we have.
Don’t let it slip away.
Make it count.
This one settled deep. Felt like a front porch conversation with eternity leaning in. You’re right—life moves faster than we expect, and only what we do for Christ will last.
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” —Psalm 90:12 (NIV)
Thanks for the reminder to live with purpose now. I don’t want to miss a single moment God’s given me.
Amen! Time has slipped, and I find myself asking those questions. I pray that God says a big ‘yes’ to them!
