In life, we need to know there is someone capable “in charge” of things. It gives us confidence and peace of mind.
A passenger on a ship needs a competent captain.
When traveling on an airplane, one needs a dependable and skilled pilot.
A patient in the hospital needs a trustworthy doctor.
Humans need security. We especially need it with things we can’t control.
Here are three reasons (there are many more) why we can take comfort in God’s sovereignty.
God holds everything together.
“He is before all things, and in him all things consist.” Colossians 1:17 (NKJV)
It’s reassuring to know our God created the entire universe and holds it together. Out of His infinite wisdom, He rules with supreme authority and power.
Take heart, He is more capable than our human minds can even understand.
He holds the soul and breath of every living thing under His power.
“In whose hand is the life of every living thing, And the breath of all mankind?” Job 12:10
Nothing happens without God’s knowledge.
It’s hard to understand why God allows bad things to happen.
Because of sin, we live in a fallen world. This means our lives will not be untouched by difficult circumstances.
Even though we will have struggles, He is always working for our good (see Romans 8:28).
It’s heartening to be able to trust Him no matter how bleak our circumstances may be.
God is capable of caring for us in every way.
He is omnipotent (all-powerful). See Jeremiah 32:17
There is nothing greater than having all power over everything. He is omniscient (all-knowing). See Psalm 147:5, Psalm 139:4
He created everything. He knows and understands all of His creation. He is omnipresent (present at the same time everywhere). See Proverbs 15:3, Jeremiah 23:24
Our lives can rest on the firm foundation of knowing we can trust Him. When our worlds get rocked by hard circumstances, we can have stability in Him.
We can take comfort in knowing we have a personal relationship with the One in charge of our existence.
What is your response to reading about the amazing attributes of our great Savior?
I hope it brings the desire to praise Him! He is worthy of it.
Peace of mind is exactly what I need today, knowing that He is in control of everything. Thank you!
