During a job search, I had to choose between two offers of employment. Both were good companies.
Tossing and turning one night, my mind wouldn’t turn off.
What if I choose the wrong job and end up not liking it?
What if I end up with a boss who has unreasonable expectations?
We all face difficult life decisions.
Should we move?
Do we change careers?
What church should we attend?
We shouldn’t do these two things when seeking God’s will:
1. Interpret everything as a sign.
God can speak to our hearts in many different ways, but we need to make sure we are genuinely receiving confirmation.
Does the decision align with scripture?
Is this the only confirmation I have received from the Lord?
2. Rely on feelings.
Making major decisions based only on fluctuating emotions may lead to overlooking a more constant, profound guidance from God.
One day, we may see all the positives and feel excited about the possibilities. The next day, we may realize there are many negatives and feel hesitant about the decision.
Here are four things we should do when seeking God’s will:
1. Ask
Seek God's guidance to understand His will through prayer.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5 (NKJV)
I don’t believe it’s God’s nature to confuse us and hinder us from being obedient.
2. Read
Listen for God to speak to you through the Bible.
Psalm 119:105 tells us His Word lights our path.
The Bible provides everything we need to know to live a godly life.
Scriptural truths can help us see things clearly and make good decisions.
3. Seek
Confide in a trusted Christian friend.
Talking it out can often provide clarity.
4. Believe
Hebrews 11:6 says we need faith in order to please God.
There are times when we need to step out in faith and trust He will work out the details.
If we have done our best to truly seek God’s will, we can trust in His sovereignty.
God desires what’s best for us, and He will provide guidance.
He might not reveal His will immediately, but remain persistent and keep seeking.
Remember too, God may not be moving you for "you". Hw may need you some place for someone else you will never know you that you were needed.
Signs and wonders are good but often they are misleading too. It's only and only God's word that help us in discerning the good and evil.
